Hi! I'm Kate
Hi, I'm Kate
Welcome, I’m so glad you’re here. I’m a psychologist based in Melbourne (originally from New Zealand; yes, the accent’s still here!) and the founder of MBH Psychology.
I know that therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all, and I aim to make it as flexible and accessible as possible. Whether you prefer regular weekly sessions, occasional check-ins, or shorter or longer sessions, we can create a plan that works for you. I also understand that therapy isn’t always the right fit, which is why I offer additional resources like courses, workshops, and downloadable guides to help you feel supported, no matter where you’re at.
What’s MBH All About?
MBH stands for Mind, Brain, Health:
-
Mind is about the thoughts, emotions, and patterns that shape how we experience the world.
-
Brain reflects my interest in neuroscience and how our brain functions (sometimes in unhelpful ways).
-
Health recognises the deep connection between physical and mental wellbeing; how pain, fatigue, or long-term conditions can impact mood, identity, and quality of life.
These elements are always interacting, and I bring curiosity, compassion, and evidence-informed care to help you make sense of how they show up for you.

My Approach: Tailored to You
I take a collaborative, client-centred approach. That means we tailor therapy to your needs; whether that’s weekly sessions, occasional check-ins, or something in between.
I primarily draw from ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy) and CBT (Cognitive Behavioural Therapy), and blend in other approaches as needed. Some sessions focus on reflection and emotional insight. Others are about strategies and structure. You don’t need to fit a mould. We work with your brain, your life, and your goals.

A Little About My Background
Before settling in Melbourne, I worked as a health psychologist in Aotearoa/New Zealand, supporting children, adolescents, and adults with long-term health conditions like pelvic pain, cancer, diabetes, and chronic fatigue. I’ve also supported clients of all ages navigating ADHD and autism, exploring LGBTQIA+ identities, or just trying to figure out why everything feels so hard.
The Boring (But Important) Bit: My Qualifications
My (long) study path to become a psychologist includes a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and Statistics, a Master of Health Psychology (first-class honours), and a Postgraduate Diploma in Psychological Practice. My Master’s research focused on a digital program to help people with long-term health conditions improve their mental health. I’ve also published journal articles on self-compassion, wellbeing apps, and helping young people with type 1 diabetes through digital interventions (feel free to look me up on Google Scholar!).
I'm also currently studying a second masters in Clinical Psychology to keep me up to date with new research, further extend my knowledge, and to also be able to access a higher Medicare rebate for you in the future!
